Mental Game

Philosophy

Aunt Karen thinks you’re going Division I. The college coach in the corner of the gym is looking for a reason not to recruit you. Every session here is built around the gap between those two voices, and the truth that most of basketball happens between the ears.

Aunt Karen vs. The Truth

Whose Voice Are You Following?

The hardest part of getting recruited is not the work. It is deciding whose feedback you trust. Aunt Karen loves you, but she does not have real recruiting information. A truthful person will tell you exactly what college coaches actually see and what has to change.

AUNT KAREN

Aunt Karen works as a banker. She never played basketball past JV. She means well and wants to build your confidence.

“You’re the best. I know you’ll get a scholarship. Just keep working on that jump shot and you’ll be a Division I player.”

TRUTHFUL PERSON

A truthful person has been in those gyms and understands how quickly coaches eliminate players. They are not trying to protect your feelings. They are trying to protect your future.

“You’re good, but college basketball means changing 5-10 things, adding real gym hours, getting in better shape, and locking in your grades. Coaches are looking for reasons not to recruit you.”

Both voices care about you. Only one tells you what the recruiting world actually rewards. Most of the work here is helping players choose the truthful voice and then do the work that voice demands.

Session Rhythm

More Than Drills

There is no cookie-cutter session here. Whether it is one player or six, sessions are allowed to play out organically. There is always a lot of talking. We watch film. We work through the intangibles: how to think, how to compete, and how to handle moments that do not show up in a box score.

Accepting failure matters. Not letting the ebbs and flows of a game live rent-free in your head matters. You are going to miss shots, turn it over, and lose games. The real work is what you do thirty seconds after that.

“If it sounds like more than basketball, that’s because it is.”

Every session also includes a conversation that has nothing to do with basketball: school, family, habits, and life. That is how we build trust, and trust is how the basketball work actually sticks.
